Cultivating Young Disciples: The Gift of Church School

Gloria Dei is a vibrant community that values the spiritual growth and education of its members, young and old. The nearly 500 children in church school, which is for kids ages 3yrs-5th grade, reflect that value. As the church prepares for its upcoming Kickoff Weekend to celebrate the start of the new programming year, we spoke with several families to gain insights into the significance of church school at Gloria Dei. Abrea Roark, Danielle & Rob Fluth, Dustin Leuning, Jessica Hardwick, and Kim Engelhart graciously shared their experiences and perspectives, highlighting the impact of church school on children’s faith journey.

Abrea Roark: Abrea emphasized the importance of age-appropriate curriculum. “Church school provides a message that resonates with each child, from the youngest to the oldest. It allows them to engage with their faith in a way that is relatable and tailored to their age group.” She further emphasized the value of church school as a complement to their children’s education at Sioux Falls Christian School, providing a faith-centered perspective that nurtures their spiritual growth.

Dustin Leuning: “We’ve been attending Gloria Dei for several years, and church school has been an integral part of our children’s upbringing. It not only provides them with a solid foundation in faith but also connects them to the larger church community. They look forward to church school and appreciate the camaraderie and friendships they’ve formed.”

Danielle & Rob Fluth: Seeking a church that would foster a sense of community and spiritual development for their children, Danielle and Rob found a welcoming home at Gloria Dei. Speaking about church school, they expressed, “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our kids to learn about their faith in an environment where they can connect with peers who share similar values. The age-appropriate teachings, crafts, and interactions make learning about God enjoyable and engaging.”

Jessica Hardwick: “As parents, we feel a responsibility to instill strong Christian values in our children. Church school allows us to reinforce these teachings in an engaging and interactive manner. It provides a safe and nurturing environment where our children can explore their faith, ask questions, and build relationships with other young believers.”

Kim Engelhart: “I’ve always had a deep connection with kids and a passion for child development. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch these young minds learn and understand God’s love in their own unique ways. I believe the impact of church school extends beyond the lessons – it’s about making personal connections, sharing life experiences, and becoming positive role models. Through these connections, we create a safe and loving environment where children can absorb the message of faith. As a teacher, I see myself as an important presence in their lives, contributing to their spiritual growth.”

Gloria Dei’s commitment to nurturing the faith of children through church school is an important part of the mission to Gather, Grow, Give, and Go. By providing age-appropriate teachings, interactive experiences, and a supportive environment, church school at Gloria Dei strengthens the spiritual foundation of young believers and fosters a sense of belonging and community.
