We continue the celebration of Easter tonight and rejoice in the gift of new life that Christ gives to each of us. Whether the story of Easter if familiar to us or brand new, Easter is just the beginning of living into the new life of Christ. This season is a chance to look with new eyes on God’s presence in the world and our call to share God’s love with others.

This evening our Lenten observance comes to an end, and we gather with Christians around the world to celebrate the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Tonight we remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples, but the central focus is his commandment that we live out the promise embodied in this meal. As Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, so we are called to give and receive love in humble service to one another. Formed into a new body in Christ through this holy meal, we are transformed by the mercy we have received and carry it into the world. Departing worship in solemn silence, we anticipate the coming days.

The devil thought he had won victory over the Son of God when Jesus was hanging on a cross, dying. But the devil had it wrong. Jesus walked out of the grave and defeated the power of evil, the power of sin, and even the power of death. What Good News this is for us and for the world. Alleluia. Christ is Risen. He is Risen Indeed. Happy Easter everyone.
