From Generation to Generation

Traveling to Egypt with fellow Gloria Dei members was truly an unforgettable experience. Everywhere we went, history felt alive. Standing among ancient landmarks, we were reminded that these are not just stories from textbooks or Scripture—they are real places where God’s story unfolded thousands of years ago.

The biblical stories we reflected on were Moses and the Israelites living in Egypt, and on Jesus, Mary, and Joseph fleeing there soon after Jesus’ birth. We visited a cave in a Coptic Christian Church, believed to be a place where the Holy Family once hid. To stand in that space was humbling and awe-inspiring, a powerful reminder that God entered fully into human history. To be in the Coptic Christian churches also reminds me of the many faithful Christians across the world who worship and proclaim Jesus as Lord every week.

Whenever I travel to ancient places like this, I am struck by how clearly God has been at work from generation to generation. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” God has always been active in and through His people, long before our time and long after. This trip reminded me that the same God who guided His people thousands of years ago continues to be active, caring, and present in our world today.

God is bigger than our understanding yet lovingly involved in every chapter of our lives. Our journey to Egypt deepened my faith and renewed my trust in a God who is faithful across all generations. Psalm 145:4 reminds us, “One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”

As we gather every week, we are reminded of a God who continues to be active and present in our lives. We are part of God’s bigger plan and are called to be witnesses to how God is at work in the world, from generation to generation. See you in church!
