Sometimes I think, “Wow, I have the coolest job”! This last week 28 youth and 10 adults went to San Franciso, CA for a High School Mission Trip. It was eye opening, humbling, faith forming, relationship building, and so much fun! I get to grow in my faith with 37 other amazing humans and call it my job! Thank you to ALL who helped give and make this trip happen for us!
The organization we served through was called Service Learning Camps. I love the way that they set up their mission work. There is hard work involved, and our youth love to work hard. There is also intentional time for learning about those whom we get to serve. We make sure we spend time in the word at night processing what we saw and experienced. We dig into how Jesus would like us to take what we have learned back home with us, to love and serve those in our community. Mission trips can’t be only about serving. They also require learning and connecting to God.
This weekend’s text is about Mary and Martha. Martha is working and serving. Mary is “just” sitting at Jesus’ feet. Often, we read this text and try to figure out who is doing the better work, Mary or Martha. I believe that is not what Jesus intended. Martha is doing holy work, work that needs to be done. She feeds and cares for others. She is just forgetting that it is also important to learn and be filled up. The why behind the work.
We are each called to love and serve others in many different and unique ways. We are also called to pray, worship, read the bible, and remember that we are God’s. It is out of a full cup that we can serve and love others.
Read Luke 10:38-42 and come this weekend to dig into what it means to serve from a full cup!
See you at church!
