Hello Gloria Dei,
I mentioned in my Christmas Eve sermon last month that my niece, Kelsie, had entered home hospice care. Kelsie has battled a neurological disease for many years. We received word now that she had died and gone to be in the full presence of Jesus. I will be able to participate in her Memorial Service, which will be a true celebration of life and new life.
Last week I was able to preach at a Funeral for long time Gloria Dei member, Joan Berdahl. In my sixteen plus years as one of your pastors, I’ve presided and preached at many funerals of your loved ones and/or fellow church members.
It is at times like these when the good news of the gospel rings so true. God promises to accompany those who are grieving in their continuing journey, and God gives the certain promise of new life to those who have passed on from this life with faith in Jesus.
Yet, as we prepare for another Annual Meeting at Gloria Dei and as we review this past year and look forward to the years to come, I know that the gospel rings true throughout all the stages of life. I love our multi-generational worship, with kids and adults singing praise to God. I love our children’s milestones and our adult fellowship and educational opportunities. I love that God accompanies us as we serve beyond our walls. And I could go on and on.
The gospel news of Jesus’ love, grace, forgiveness, and life for us truly is Good News. Jesus is a life-giver who accompanies us here and now, goes with us into the future, and wins for us life everlasting. Thank you for your partnership in the amazing work we get to do together, all for the glory of God.
You are invited and encouraged to attend the Gloria Dei Annual Meeting this Sunday at 11:45 in the sanctuary. You can find the Annual Report here.
For this weekend in worship, please read Luke 4:14-21.
