Moms and Shepherds

Hello Gloria Dei,

This weekend in the church year is known as Good Shepherd Weekend. Within worship we’ll be reading John 10 and Psalm 23. In both readings, we see God as our Good Shepherd.

This Sunday is also Mother’s Day. Within a healthy relationship between Mothers and Children, the mom acts much like a good shepherd. A mom looks out for the safety and well-being of her children. She “leads them beside still waters” so to speak. Like God does for us, she restores the souls of her kids. And just like God, mothers want “goodness and mercy” to follow their children all the days of their lives.

We give thanks to God for the gift of mothers and for the gift of families, no matter what shape or form they may take. And we give God thanks for the gift of church families like Gloria Dei and so many others, where mutual care and respect for one another leads to blessed lives, all in the name of Christ, our Good Shepherd.

For this weekend, please read John 10:22-30 and Psalm 23.

See you in worship,

Pastor Tim
