I love the story about the preacher who was standing on a street corner in the middle of a rainstorm. He was waiting to cross the street and to make conversation with the guy next to him, the preacher said, “If it doesn’t stop raining soon, we’ll have to build an ark.”
“What’s an ark?” the man asked.
The preacher said, “Are you telling me you haven’t heard about the Great Flood, and Noah building the ark, and all the animals getting into the ark?”
“To tell you the truth”, the man replied, “I just moved to town a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been really busy, so I haven’t had time to watch the local news.”
Biblical literacy. It is important. That’s why we encourage all of us to be reading through the biblical texts that will be the center of preaching during our worship services.
The biblical vision is for each of us to have a deep and rich faith. As part of that, God calls us to go deep in learning, to grow in our understanding of God’s word, and then to live it out, all the while knowing that God loves us, forgives us, and journeys with us through life.
Currently we are in the gospel of Mark. For this week, please read Mark chapter 6. As you do, ask the questions, “How does this reading relate to me and my life?” “What is God saying to me through these texts?”
If you’d like to go even deeper, check out our Gloria Dei calendar for Bible Study, Book Group, and Spiritual Growth opportunities.
I’m thankful that we get to learn and live out God’s word together as a community of faith. Happy reading.
See you in worship,
Pastor Tim
