Affirming God’s Promises, Everyday

For the next two weekends, our 72 ninth graders will stand in front of the congregation during worship and affirm their faith in God. At the baptismal font God made promises to them. Those promises, centered on being a child of God, continue throughout their lives and ours. This milestone of confirmation is important because they are affirming those promises, and committing to continually living out the faith God has planted within them.

I urge you to let the confirmation students be an example for you. Remind yourself each and every day of the great promises God has made to you. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God has made a covenant with you. Because of Jesus, as the apostle Paul says: “We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  –Romans 8:37, 39.

I love those verses. They fill me with joy. To that great news I say “Yes. Thanks be to God.” How can we not be filled with joy when we affirm and say yes to the love of God which is ours in Christ Jesus?

I want to remind you, too, that this Sunday night we will gather at Vinyl Taco for fellowship and to hear a bit about ministry happenings at Gloria Dei. This is an adult-only event. The food is free. So come and enjoy. We’ll begin at 5 p.m.

And, if you can’t make it this Sunday night, we are doing it again at Vinyl Taco on November 5. Childcare is available on the 5th at Gloria Dei, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

RSVP’s are necessary for each event, and for childcare on November 5. So, please let us know online at www.gloriadeisf.org/stewardship or by calling the church office at 605-371-3737.

See you in worship! For this weekend, please read Acts chapters one and two.

P.S. The Nominating Committee has been working to fill the slate for electing open council seats and other positions. The balloting will take place on November 4th, 5th, and 8th within worship.
