Hello Gloria Dei,
This past Wednesday evening during worship, we focused on Jesus’ 2nd word from the cross. He was hanging there with two others, one on his right and one on his left. Jesus speaks the life-giving word, “Today you will be with me in paradise.”
I find it interesting that in our text for this coming weekend (read Mark 10:32-45), that two of Jesus’ disciples, James and John, ask Jesus if they can sit with him, one on his right and one on his left, in his glory.
Clearly, James and John don’t fully understand what they are asking. Jesus goes on to explain that his glory is much different than the world’s definition of glory. Jesus’ glory is found in sacrificing his life in order to give life to others. Jesus’ glory is on full display while he is suffering and dying for the likes of you and me, and the world.
Within this text Jesus says, “Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant.” Today, ponder what that might mean for you and your life. Having been given the gifts of love, life, forgiveness, and eternal salvation, how can you look to put greatness, by Jesus’ definition, into practice?
See you in worship,
Pastor Selbo
