Hello Gloria Dei,
Martin Luther once said, “Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.” Psalm 147 says “Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God.” Psalm 150 says “Praise the Lord with Trumpet sound. Praise him with lute and harp, with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe, and with loud clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes, Praise the Lord.”
At times I’ll listen to music, like you do, soft and beautiful. Other times I turn it up at loud at home and I think, “Hey, my neighbors get to listen to great music today, whether they think so or not.”
And I love the quote from the great poet and writer Maya Angelou who said, “Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the spaces between the notes and curl my back to loneliness and find peace.”
This Sunday, December 15, our choirs and musicians will lead us in worship at both the 9:00 and 10:30 services as they present the annual Gloria Dei Advent/Christmas Cantata. We will be blessed by beautiful music as we sing and hear praises to God. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and relatives to Gloria Dei.
Our four theme words for this season of Advent are Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Through the music of the Advent and Christmas season, God gives us all four.
I also want to remind you that this Saturday our 5 p.m. worship will be a Service of Hope and Remembrance. This service centers on the reality of grief and loss in our lives and the hope and peace that God brings.
And as we approach the celebration of Christmas, we are in need of volunteers for any and all of our Christmas Eve services. Use this link to sign up if you can. Thank you!
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the earth.”
See you this weekend in worship. God is good. All the time.
Pastor Tim
