Well, it is December 1st. In the church year we’ve arrived at the season of Advent. Advent is a time for us to reflect, prepare, hope, and wait for the celebration of Jesus’ arrival at Christmas.
During this season there are a number of opportunities to assist you in your spiritual preparation for Christmas. First and foremost is gathering together in worship. During our weekend worship and on Wednesday nights, we will be having an Advent emphasis. Wednesdays during Advent we will use the Holden Evening Prayer liturgy.
Today I want to highlight another Advent opportunity. We are pleased at Gloria Dei to once again be hosting the Augustana University School of Music Christmas Vespers Concert, “And a Little Child Shall Lead Them”. The dates are tonight, Friday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. and again tomorrow, Saturday, December 2, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Saturday afternoon matinee is abbreviated and geared toward those both young in age and young at heart.
For details, and to purchase tickets, please go to augie.edu/vespers.
***Due to the Augie Concert on Saturday night: This week’s 5 p.m. Saturday worship will be in the Chapel.
I wish you a blessed beginning to this important season in the church year. And watch our webpage and announcements for the many other Advent opportunities during this season, including serving at Church on the Street on Saturday, December 9, the Service of Hope and Remembrance, also on Saturday, December 9, our own Choir and Musicians’ Advent Cantata on Sunday, December 10, and the Children’s Christmas programs on December 13 and 17.
For this weekend’s worship, please read Matthew 3:1-12.
